Chapter Philanthropy

Kappa’s national philanthropies are Active Minds, The Jed Foundation, Mental Health America, The National Alliance on Mental Illness, The National Eating Disorders Association, and Jack.org. Eta Chi’s NC State philanthropy is Feed the Pack Food Pantry. Active Minds is the leading nonprofit in the United States working to end the silence and change the culture around mental health by mobilizing the next generation. The Jed Foundation (JED) is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for the nation’s teens and young adults. They’re partnering with high schools and colleges to strengthen programming, services, and systems related to mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention. JED also equips teens and young adults with the skills and knowledge to help themselves and each other. They encourage community awareness, understanding and action for young adult mental health. Mental Health America (MHA) is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all. MHA’s work is driven by its commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. NEDA supports individuals and families affected by eating disorders and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care. Jack.org is Canada's only charity training and empowering young leaders to revolutionize mental health in every province and territory. Feed the Pack is the food pantry on NC State’s campus. Feed the Pack is student-led and open to all members of the campus community (students, staff, and faculty.)

In the fall semester, our major philanthropy event is The Nightmare on Avent Ferry: Haunted Manor, where we partner with the fraternity, Theta Chi. This event lasts for a weekend in October and money is raised for both Kappa and Theta Chi’s philanthropies. There was about $1000 raised for each respective philanthropy. The haunted manor is an anticipated event that gets a lot of positive attention from the NC State community. Last year, 2022 the manor got extended an additional night because of how well it was doing. This spring, 2023 we are holding our signature event Mac n’ Keys. Since 2020 this event has been held with Covid-19 restrictions, turned into a drive up event, but this year we are bringing it back to in-person. Last year we raised around $3,000 doing a drive up event and we hope to do even better this year with the event being back in-person! The goal is to get live music and raffle along with the mac and cheese bar which will include a variety of different options including a gluten free and vegan option. The Eta Chi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma is making an effort to become more involved in campus philanthropy events and other greek organizations. Kappas in this chapter are passionate about bettering the NC State and Raleigh communities through acts of service. This semester we are participating in Pi Kappa Phi’s War of the Roses, Dance Marathon, Habitat for Humanity’s Shack-A-Thon, etc. We are also making an effort to volunteer more time with Feed the Pack, as it is our local philanthropy. Our chapter is looking forward to becoming more involved on campus and working on destigmatizing mental health for everyone.
