New Member Program
The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.
The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.
College is a time full of new experiences and developing who you are as a person. These times can become overwhelming and intense, especially when joining a sorority. Kappa ensures that when new members accept their bid and are welcomed into the Kappa community, they are welcomed by sisters who support and lead each other to be the best versions of themselves. Our new member program gives our new sisters a welcome that gives them familiarity and a place they can go to call home.
During the new member period, new members are educated on the history of the Fraternity and how our chapter has developed during its time at NC State. Our new member meetings also express expectations and educational requirements to new members. We encourage new members to become close to those within their bid class as well as with the rest of the chapter. New sisters have the chance to bond with each other in our New Member Retreat where they learn more about each other as well as create lasting friendships with girls within their PC. Wise Owls are dedicated to the group to create a bond between the new PC and the rest of the chapter and answer any questions they might have. Our Big Sister, Little Sister process pairs our new sisters with an older sister who will guide them through their beginning time in the sorority and support them through their time in Kappa and beyond. Through our pairing method, our sisters are put together through their preferences and similarity to ensure a perfect relationship.
